EDUCATION
Born in Rome he began his
dance studies at the Centro
Professionale di Danza
Contemporanea with Elsa
Piperno and Joseph Fontano.
In 1984 he moved to New York
to continue his dance
training primarily at the
Cunningham Studio, while
following open classes and
workshops with Mark Morris,
Sara Radner, Stephen
Petronio, Tere O’Connor and
others. He studied ballet
with several teachers, among
whom: Ernest Pagnano,
Jocelyn Lorenz, Morjorie
Mussman, Lawrence Rhodes,
Cherylyn Lavagnino, Maggie
Black and Cindi Green.
PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE
EXPERIENCE
In the twelve years he spent
in New York he worked with
various companies: Rosalind
Newman and Dancers
(1986-87), Laura Dean
Dancers and Musicians (1988)
and the Lucinda Childs Dance
Company (1989-1996), with
whom – among other things –
he toured the world with the
Opera Einstein on The Beach
by Robert Wilson and Philip
Glass, while at the same
time also working with young
choreographers like Eric
Barsness, Ruby Shang, Doug
Varone, and in Italy with
Enzo Cosimi and Adriana
Borriello.
Upon his return to Rome in
1996 he prepared a solo
show, Rebel Angels with
choreographies by Molissa
Fenley, Jeremy Nelson, Sara
Skaggs, Doug Varone and Tere
O’Connor, with which he
toured throughout Italy.
CHOREOGRAPHY
He debuted as choreographer
in 1996 with La Rosa
Incarnata, a piece
commissioned by the company
Danzare la Vita.
In 1997 he founded his own
company CMP and premiered
with Il Rosario di Umili
Meraviglie. Since then the
company has produced several
full evening works: TAZ
NITE, Cyber Queer Lounge –
long d version, Earoticity
(co produced by Festival
Armunia), Tangram-tangled
grammar (co produced by
Festival International
Montpellier Danse), Coppelia
– based on a true story (co
produced by AMAT), Helzapop,
Nouvelle Vogue by Federica
Mastrangeli and Paolo
Demitry (Pidieffe
Collective), Venus as a Boy
(with his choreographies,
Michal Rynia and Lucinda
Childs).
COMMISSIONS
Since 1997 he has created
several works for other
companies and academies:
Ilinx for the Balletto di
Toscana (for whom he also
set a 20 minute version of
Cyber Queer Lounge); SINless
and Coppelius:ACT2theMirror
for the Teatro Nuovo di
Torino; The Four Sections
for the Accademia Nazionale
di Danza; Venus as a Boy #1
for the Rotterdamse
Dansacademie; Capricci e
Bisticci for the Balletto di
Mimma Testa and The Arena

TEACHING
He started teaching in 1993
in Milan at the Scuola
D’Arte Drammatica “P.Grassi”.
Since then he has taught
workshops and master classes
throughout Italy, as well as
in London (International
Dance Workshop), New York
(New York University – Tish
School for the Arts),
Rotterdam (Rotterdamse
Dansacademie, DansAteliers),
Slovenia (Izola Plesni
Kampus), Den Haag (Holland
Dance Festival), Amsterdam (Henny
Jurriens Stichting)and for
the companies Dansgroep
Krisztina de Chatel and
Danceworks Rotterdam.
From 2004 to 2009 he was
Coordinator of the
Performing Department and
teacher at CODARTS –
Rotterdamse Dansacademie in
the Netherlands under the
artistic direction of Samuel
Wursten
MICHELE POGLIANI
Nato a Roma comincia a
studiare al Centro
Professionale di Danza
Contemporanea diretto da
Elsa Piperno e Joseph
Fontano.
Nel 1985 si trasferì a New
York per continuare gli
studi seguendo le lezioni
principalmente allo Studio
di Merce Cunningham.
Durante il soggiorno di
dieci anni negli Stati Uniti
accumula varie esperienze,
dalle lezioni in stile Post-
Twyla Tharp con Rosalind
Newman alla danza
minimalista di Laura Dean,
lavorando
contemporaneamente con
giovani coreografi come Eric
Barsness, Ruby Shang e Doug
Varone. Ma la sua esperienza
più significativa sono i
sette anni che ha passato
come membro della Lucinda
Childs Dance Company, con
cui, fra altre cose, porta
l'opera "Einstein on the
Beach" di Robert Wilson e
Philippe Glass in tournée
in tutto il mondo.
Dopo avere salutato il mondo
della danza statunitense, intepretando
l'antologia di assoli
“Angeli Ribelli " ( con
coreografie di Molissa
Fenley, Jeremy Nelson, Doug
Varone, Sara Skaggs e Tere
O'Connor), Pogliani debutta
come coreografo in" La Rosa
Incarnata" commissionato
dalla compagnia Danzare La
Vita per il Festival “Invito
alla Danza."
Nel 1997 fonda la sua
compagnia, e nell'autunno
dello stesso anno il
Balletto di Toscana gli
commissiona " Ilinx", con
musiche originali di Paolo
Demitry, inspirato al
romanzo Alexis di
Marguerite Yourcenar.
Da allora il CMP è apparso
in molti importanti Teatri e
Feste in Italia ed
all'estero (Francia, Regno
Unito Belgio, Marocco
Israele).
Nel 1988 gli viene assegnato
il premio " Danza & Danza”
come miglior coreografo /
ballerino dell'anno.
Nel 2000 crea, insieme a
Federica Mastrangeli e Paolo
Demitry,"SINless"
commissionato dal Teatro
Nuovo di Torino. Nello
stesso anno gli viene
conferito il prestigioso
Premio Positano e con la
sua compagnia apparve nello
show televisivo “Amalfi: una
notte sul mare" prodotto
dalla RAI.
Nel 2001 insieme ai suoi
collaboratori creano per il
Teatro Nuovo di Torino "
Coppelius: atto 22 lo
specchio", un II atto in
versione moderna del
balletto “Coppelia."
Nel 2003 l'Accademia
Nazionale Danza di Roma gli
commissiona un pezzo corto,
Le Quattro Sezioni per la
compagnia giovanile.
Dal 1993 insegna in Italia
così come a Londra, New York
(Tish School of the Arts –
NY University), e
L’Accademia di Danza a
Rotterdam.
